Written poetry is beheld more as a mental puzzle which is translated into logical meaning. But poetry resembles music when it is read aloud.

We speak in rhythm, due to the poem's structure or our breath's patterns. We slow or speed in response to the emotions of the poem. And we add pauses and accents that express as much as the words themselves.

We speak in melody, rising and falling in pitch -- rising for a question, or falling for sadness.

And when poems are set to music, the words change even more; they become more vivid and meaningful. Many forgettable poems have been dressed in beauty, and themselves heard as beautiful, by being applied to beautiful music.
